In order to verify the accuracy of photo scales, EVIDENT utilizes a certified etched stainless steel ruler with Serial Number C68306 that is certified traceable to master standards at the National Institute of Standards & Technology, also know as NIST®.  This NIST traceable ruler is carefully compared to multiple random samples of the photo scales that we receive from our manufacturers and suppliers.  Batches of Photo Scales which do not calibrate to the NIST traceable standard are rejected and destroyed.  For complete information, search Google for the NIST document titled “Dimensional Review of Scales for Forensic Photography”.
